Travertine Style Porcelain Bathroom Tile and Grout Cleaning in Finchley

These photographs taken recently at a property in Finchley highlight a common problem homeowners experience with shower tile and grout. In this case, the tiles were Travertine effect Porcelain which are a lovely cream and brown shade. Like Ceramic, Porcelain tiles are generally impervious to water and can usually be kept clean quite easily; the Grout, however, is a different matter.

During showering, the soap and dirt slide straight down the tile and get held in the grout line, which being cementitious with a rough surface, holds onto it. This can quickly build up and eventually turn the grout black. The grout was really bringing the appearance of the bathroom down, which was a shame as otherwise it looked like a recent install. Keen to have it looking its best for future guests, the owner asked me to refresh the bathroom. I quickly worked out a quote which was accepted and got to work.

Deep Cleaning Grout on a Porcelain Tiled Floor

I started work by giving all the tile and grout a wipe down and then proceeded to clean all the grout tiles with Tile Doctor Duo Clean. This is our go-to bathroom tile and grout cleaner which comes with an aerosol attachment; this is key as it mixes the product with air making it lighter, allowing it to stick to vertical surfaces easily. The product was sprayed onto the Tile and Grout and then left to soak in for ten minutes. This gives it time to break down the soiling before scrubbing it into the grout lines with a stiff grout brush. The grout was then left and attention turned to the tiles themselves.

After washing down the tiles to remove the soiling, the tile and grout were re-inspected and then re-treated depending on the ingrained dirt, mould, and marks. Most of the work was needed around the splash area under the shower itself, and after two rounds of cleaning, it showed a significant improvement.

At this point, I would normally replace the silicone; however, it was still in good condition, so after a final rinse, the work was complete. The owner was pleased with the work and for aftercare, I recommended the use of Aqua Pro, which is another Tile Doctor product designed for the daily cleaning of bathroom tiles.
